sar - System Activity Reporting.

Synopsis

sar [ -A ] [ -b ] [ -B ] [ -c ] [ -d ] [ -i interval ] [ -p ] [ -q ] [ -r ] [ -R ] [ -t ] [ -u ] [ -v ] [ -V ] [ -w ] [ -W ] [ -y ] [ -n { DEV | EDEV | NFS | NFSD | SOCK | ALL } ] [ -x { pid | SELF | ALL } ] [ -X { pid | SELF | ALL } ] [ -I { irq | SUM | ALL | XALL } ] [ -P { cpu | ALL } ] [ -o [ filename ] | -f [ filename ] ] [ -s [ hh:mm:ss ] ] [ -e [ hh:mm:ss ] ] [ interval [ count ] ]

Examples

1. Report device i/o. Settings: Print Pretty, Report Device, Time interval 2 sec, Continuous

sar -p -d 2 0

2. Report on VMware instance process stats

get the pid by:

ps ax | grep vmware | grep //instance name//

use sar to report on pid stats

sar -x //pid// 2 0
