+====== Modifying Firefox config in Linux ======

+Note: Similar principles can be applied for Windows or Mac.
 +
 +**Creating a custom preference file**
 +
+To change the user-agent string for Firefox you can modify the config by adding a preference file.
 +
 +  cd /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.12/defaults/preferences
 +
 +
+Create new preference file. In this example it will be called 'newfilename'.
 +
 +  vi newfilename.js
 +
+Add the following to change user-agent
 +
 +  pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009073022 Firefox/3.0.13 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Scribd Toolbar 1.0");
 +
 +Save and done !
 +
 +
+Need to check: It seems all the preference files in this directory are loaded up when firefox is launched. Need to verify this.
 +
 +**Default preference file**
 +
+There is a file called pref.js where you could also add your custom preferences in linux its located at:
 +
 +  /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.12/defaults/profile/pref.js
 +
+**Modifying preferences in your current session**
 +
+To modify preference in your current session you can access the config page by entering 'about:config' in the url address
 +
 +
 +**Plugins to Modify Preferences**
 +
 +https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/967
 +
 +**References and Links**
 +
 +http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries  - FAQ about 'about:config'
